troopdata explorerUS overseas deployments, basing, construction and exercises

Data. All figures come from the troopdata R package (Michael Flynn). Deployment figures are from the Defense Manpower Data Center; basing data from David Vine’s catalogue of US bases abroad; construction from Department of Defense comptroller budget documents; exercises from the Multinational Military Exercise data.

Reading the numbers. Annual deployment figures follow get_troopdata(quarters = FALSE): each column holds the largest value a location reported that year, so branch columns can come from different quarters and need not sum to the total. Construction amounts are thousands of current US dollars and are not inflation adjusted.
